Apple Software Launch Brings New Features

Apple has released its new software for their line of hardware and now comes the tremendous and enjoyable learning curve. For some of us, it has been accompanied with new hardware, either new or from someone who has upgraded.

The new iOS 17, watchOS 10 and MacOS Sonoma software has brought substantial changes with productivity improvements along with many unseen additions. There have been some substantial updates to the software for our devices. Some of those feature are:

iOS 17

iOS 17 makes the iPhone even more personal and intuitive with major updates to the communication apps; StandBy, a new way to experience iPhone when it is charging; easier sharing with AirDrop; and more intelligent input that improves the speed and accuracy of typing.

WatchOS 10

WatchOS 10 is the star of the show to me bringing a new visual language to apps to see more information at a glance, a new Sart Stack to show relevant widgets right when they’re needed, and delightful new watch faces. Bluetooth connectivity for power meters, speed sensors, and cadence sensors arrive for cyclists. Unlocking new metrics and Workout Views, and cycling workouts will automatically show up as a Live Activity on iPhone and utilize the full screen. Additionally, New Compass Waypoints and Maps capabilities can further help during outdoor adventures. The Mindfulness app offers new tools to support mental health with sate of mind logging, and Apple Watch also introduces the ability to measure time spent in daylight using the ambient light sensor.

MacOS Sonoma

MacOS Sonoma brings a rich set of new features to the Mac that make work and play even more powerful. With MacOS Sonoma, desktop widgets unlock a new way to personalize the Mac and get more done, while stunning new screen savers, big updates to video conferencing and Safari, along with optimized gaming make upgrading a productive opportunity.

Training Opportunities

In true Apple form, you have to actively pursue learning as it doesn’t come in one manual. I’ve listened to podcasts, read magazines and browsed the internet. I’m learning something new every day it seems. I am currently taking a class on iOS17 at iPhone Life. Also, Dan’s Tutorials offers free training sessions every month and more available if you are a member.

Computers and Caffeine

We will also be having a C&C in October. They have been well attended and solved several problems. A first last month was more topic than time. This month’s C&C is on Sat., Oct 21st at 10 am via Zoom. Feel free to stay 30 minutes or 2 hours. It’s an impromptu discussion about technology products.

Board of Directors News

If you have not paid your dues for the year, please see Dale to wrap this annual requirement up as soon as possible. The annual fee support all of our programs.

We are also in need of a public affairs board member to publize the club. See me if you are interested.

Closing

Thank you and see you October 11th at the BP Energy Center, 5:45 p.m., either in person or on Zoom. Feel free to attend either way. Please feel free to invite a friend.

Sincerely

Jon
